HOW IT WORKS

Did you know that Amethyst is a purple variety of Quartz?

In 1880, Marie Curie’s husband and French physicist Pierre Curie discovered that putting pressure on various crystals such as quartz created electricity. This phenomenon is called the Piezoelectric effect. The word piezoelectric originates from the Greek word piezein, which means to press or squeeze. Upon examination of the human body, scientists revealed biological piezoelectric materials such as skin, hair and bone; right down to our very DNA!

The internal structure of quartz crystals enables it to vibrate continuously whilst maintaining a precise frequency standard. Quartz helps to regulate the movement of watches and clocks and can be found in other essential technology such as computers and TV screens. If only we can use our watches to travel through time!
